Worldviews

See philosophy.

A worldview is quite simply how someone “views the world”. For various reasons, I believe worldviews are made out of at least three components:

  1. Metaphysics (what is or exists)
  2. Epistemology (what knowledge is and how we aquire it)
  3. Ethics (knowledge and practice of normative statements and value judgements)

I don’t have a worldview

Yes you do

We all have various opinions about the world, both rational and irrational. Our opinions are rational if they posess no internal contradictions. Our rational opinions are true if also their most basic assumptions are true. In addition to that, our “most basic” assumptions are only true if their own most basic assumptions are true, and so on…

Any rational conclusion is thus not necessarily true, though it might provide a comfortable psychological platform to stand on. Without regard to ethics, the mere pleasure of this psychological comfort can make us indifferent to whether our opinions are true or even rational (why ought they be?). If your platform is not grounded in reality, the “comfort” and “peace” it provides can be taken away from you. If however, your platform is grounded in reality, the comfort and peace it provides cannot be taken away from you.

Thus metaphysics should greatly interest you.
