I'm Moving to PeerTube (via Odyssey)
I’ve long had issues with Google (should be no big surprise). However, the single service that has kept me there has been Youtube.
But, recently I learned that it seems I actually need at least one google-infected device to be sure that I will be able to log in to my own account. I was literally forced to go travel somewhere quite far away to verify the login from this one device. I currently only have one such device, and it was not readily accessible when I needed to log in. It doesn’t matter that I have a trusted recovery email or anything. It’s not a big deal if you always have such a device laying around, but I simply don’t want to.
Hence this was the final annoyance that caused me to start migrating away from the few google-services I still use. At some point I will probably just delete the google-account. Microsoft is probably next now that Luanti exists (even though it hurts my nostalgia) We’ll see.
I’ve updated the “Videos” link on the website to point to my Odysee channel as of now. My goal is to host stuff myself on PeerTube, however it is not realistic as of now. If you would like to watch my (or any other) videos on you phone, I would recommend checking out NewPipe or Grayjay. Or just don’t bother watching anything at all… Probably better.
